SeaRoad Joins AUSMEPA Ship Membership Program

Thanks to the company’s strong environmental credentials, SeaRoad Shipping is the latest shipowner to join the Australian Marine Environment Protection Association (AUSMEPA) Ship Membership Program. An indicator of high quality shipping, the AUSMEPA ship membership scheme only accepts members that meet strict safety and environmental criteria.

Crew members of the Searoad Tamar and Searoad Mersey were each presented with AUSMEPA ship membership program certificates and flags to acknowledge the high degree of environmental awareness on board, and the contribution to the program.

The flags and certificates are displayed on board as a constant reminder of the crew’s responsibility to protect the marine environment in which they operate.

AUSMEPA is a not for profit organisation that aims to inspire students of all ages to engage in education and actions that will raise awareness of Australia’s unique marine environment. The ship membership scheme helps to raise money to fund free education programs for schools that focus on threats to the marine environment such as marine pests and climate change. The school education programs also aim to educate students about Australia’s important marine industries.

Through the AUSMEPA ‘Ships and the Marine Environment’ education program students learn about the role of shipping in the efficient and environmentally friendly transportation of cargo, how ship operations work, the journey of containers and other types of cargo and the important role ship’s crews play in
ensuring a safe, clean and green shipping industry.

Funds that are raised from AUSMEPA membership, sponsorships and the ship membership scheme help provide free marine environment educational resources to our young Australians and their teachers and also to seafarers. The free school education resources are available on the AUSMEPA website www.ausmepa.org.au
