SeaRoad, Telstra and the NextG Network

During October SeaRoad was asked to be a part of a marketing promotion by Telstra to show the benefits of the NextG Network for SeaRoad.

On Wednesday 21st October filming took place at the Devonport Shipping wharf. Through the efforts of numerous SeaRoad staff SeaRoad branded trucks were positioned in place and co-ordinated to manoeuvre around the terminal for the film crew. Footage was also taken on board where an interview was conducted with Tim Wilson and Dale Emmerton. You will see this posted on the SeaRoad website soon.

Telstra’s NextG Network technology is used extensively throughout the SeaRoad group in the following ways:

• The King Island terminal connects to the SeaRoad network through the use of NextG.
• Employees connect to SeaRoad’s Virtual Private Network through the use of NextG for remote access.
• Recreational internet access for ship based employees separate to the SeaRoad production network.
• Shipping’s Self Mooring units are connected to SeaRoad’s network through the use of NextG in Devonport Tasmania and Webb Dock Melbourne. This allows the units to be supported remotely through the use of remote control software by service providers in New Zealand and Information Services in Devonport. In addition it allows Ship Management (both shore and ship based) to remotely control and monitor the Self Mooring units from their office PC’s or anywhere in the world.
• Both of our cargo ships (MV Searoad Tamar & MV Searoad Mersey) are connected to SeaRoad’s network through the use of the NextG Network. This arrangement allows our ships to be treated in exactly the same way we would treat a land based office or depot. The only difference is that they float across Bass Strait !
